Understanding MRR Growth
MRR (Monthly Recurring Revenue) is the heartbeat metric for any subscription business. Net MRR growth equals new revenue minus churned revenue. A 10% monthly growth rate sounds impressive, but if churn is eating 5% of your base each month, your effective growth is only 5%.
Compounding works both ways — small improvements in churn have outsized effects over 12 months. Reducing churn from 5% to 3% can be more valuable than increasing your growth rate by the same amount. That's why this calculator separates growth and churn rather than using a single "net growth" number: so you can see exactly where to focus.
